2016 is certainly going to be an exciting year for Tri Project as we will be hosting the first ever standard distance open water triathlon in the Triathlon London, Yellow Jersey, Senior League in partnership with Clapham Chasers.
Thorpe Park Standard Distance Triathlon
Tri Project has always had close links with Clapham Chasers since it first started, as athletes we have competed against them and many of their members have raced in our events. We took the opportunity to talk to Rachael Dodd from the Club Committee to find out a bit more about the Chasers.
Q: Tell us a bit about the club?
A: Clapham Chasers is an informal and friendly running and triathlon club, based in South West London. The club was founded in 2005 by a group of friends and there was no stopping the growth of the club, it is now over 1,000 members strong! I joined the club 4 years ago and have seen it grow in both size and the amount of sessions we offer too which has been fantastic.
Our purpose is to provide a diverse schedule of quality training opportunities, from which members can pick and choose in order to suit their own individual interests, pace and goals. There’s no pressure to be at all the sessions, or in fact any at all, but it does make training that little bit easier.
Q: Along with all the training and racing is there a social side to the club?
A: There certainly is. Our home at the Trinity Fields Clubhouse in Wandsworth acts as a great meeting place for our Monday night social runs and being local to Wandsworth Common, offers the opportunity to have a drink after all that exercise! All sessions and socials are led by groups of friendly and energetic volunteers keen for members to enjoy all that the club has to offer. We have regular social events too, whether they be organised by our Social Secretary or through ad hoc methods, there’s often something going on. New members are warmly welcomed and everyone is encouraged to join the ever-increasing sea of blue and green vests at team events. Make sure that you take a look at our website for more information about all our sessions.
Q: We have seen many Chasers competing in the London Triathlon League over the years but why do you now want to host your own event?
A: The League has fostered excellent rivalry between the teams in London which creates a great atmosphere. In true Chaser style we have already had many club members willing to come and marshal at the event so we can guarantee plenty of encouragement and support for all competitors around the course. With London League points up for grabs we are also looking to field a strong team of athletes, with 60 club members already signed up we are looking forward to battling it out with the other London clubs! We also encourage anyone from the club to get involved and the relays offer the opportunity for those who don’t want to compete in a full triathlon to do just that. We wanted to host something reasonably local where we could really show everyone else what the Clapham Chasers are all about.
